FROGDNA is the largest FakeRare painting at 1.65m tall.
FROGDNA Sampling
Pepe was sampled from 88 Pepe cards in Series 0, Series 1 and Series 2.
Samples were sequenced into 88 pixels via a 'greedy' AI algorithm.
Each pixel was color matched then hand-painted.
The FROGDNA project re-grounds the pixel back into the material world by translating digital hex codes into the richness of physical paint.
Each color began as a precise digital value, interpreted into painterly recipes...shifting the language of screens into the textures of brush and pigment. Our digital addiction plainly seen inhabiting a physical reality.
1966 Gerhard Richter Inspiration
The project is in conversation with Gerhard Richter’s Color Charts (1966), which array industrial colors into grids that question perception, chance, and order.
While Richter reorders an industrial reality with Color Charts, MintFace reorders our digital preoccupation with FROGDNA.
2022 MintFace Lineage
The lineage for FROGDNA began with 10k Project minted May 7th 2022. A pixel-centric commentary on the dominance of 'pfp' profile pictures as NFT culture.
Seize and Share collection (June 2022) began with a reinterpretation of '6529 Seizing' Meme #1. The smallest unit of the digital image, the pixel, is transformed into a networked object of art.
